They are connected closely with many important fields of mathematics: representations theory, algebraic geometry, mathematical physics, infinite dimensional Lie algebras, to name a few. In this talk, we shall review the basics on modular forms and their applications by seeing quite a few examples. We then move on to weakly holomorphic modular forms and mention some of my recent works in this field, one of which is joint with Kim and Lee.
